Overview

Tony Thwaites Wing The University Hospital of the West Indies Private Wing —known affectionately as the Tony Thwaites Wing— is a 54 bed non-profit healthcare facility and is the private wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), the largest public hospital in Jamaica and the largest teaching hospital in the region.

Problem

The UHWI Private wing had a disparate IT infrastructure with some aged infrastructure. They were also embarking on the implementation of a Health Information Management (HIMS) system as a pilot alongside the UHWI hospital. The HIMS project necessitated the modernization of their network, Wireless and server infrastructure. Secondarily, the hospital needed to employ systems with the requisite scalability that would allow them to integrate other types of medical technologies seamlessly without having to rip and replace equipment.

Solution

UHWI Private Wing partnered with Salus to assess their current infrastructure and provide a plan to transform the technology systems to allow the hospital to employ modern technologies such IoT devices used in healthcare and portable devices, tablets, and wall Carts.

Salus designed, planned, implemented, and optimized a detailed solution stack providing ubiquitous Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire facility along with next generation firewalls to improve security. Salus also upgraded the server infrastructure and implemented cloud backup and disaster recovery.
