1 Kingston Wharves Limited operates multipurpose port terminal in the Caribbean. It engages in the operation of public wharves and logistics facilities. The company also rents and repairs cold storage facilities; and provides security and property rental services. In addition, it offers verified gross mass services for full container load shipment, and transshipment services. Its port terminal provides a range of cargo handling and logistics services, including mooring and unmooring of vessels; stevedoring; equipment rental; stripping and stuffing of containers; and storage and warehousing. Kingston Wharves needed a network to support the new ultra-modern Total logistic hub that was built to support the Jamaican governments vision to create a global transshipment hub to fuel economic growth and development. The project requirements included a local area network to support staff and encourage productivity by facilitating wired and wireless connectivity for servers and IoT devices. They also required a mesh Wi-Fi network providing ubiquitous access to tablet PCs and RFIDs used to maintain inventory tracking within the 160,000 Square feet all while keeping security at the forefront of the solution. Salus was hired by Kingston Wharves based on our proven track record to deliver innovative standards-based solutions backed by best in class engineering expertise and professionalism to design, plan and implement a Cisco based routing, switching and security infrastructure. Ongoing optimization and seasonal network management is also a key part of the offering. 2 Tony Thwaites Wing The University Hospital of the West Indies Private Wing —known affectionately as the Tony Thwaites Wing— is a 54 bed non-profit healthcare facility and is the private wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), the largest public hospital in Jamaica and the largest teaching hospital in the region. The Wing is well regarded as the premier facility within Jamaica and The UHWI Private wing had a disparate IT infrastructure with some aged infrastructure. They were also embarking on the implementation of a Health Information Management (HIMS) system as a pilot alongside the UHWI hospital. The HIMS project necessitated the modernization of their network, Wireless and server infrastructure. Secondarily, the hospital needed to employ systems with the requisite scalability that would allow them to integrate other types of medical technologies seamlessly without having to rip and replace equipment. UHWI Private Wing partnered with Salus to assess their current infrastructure and provide a plan to transform the technology systems to allow the hospital to employ modern technologies such IoT devices used in healthcare and portable devices, tablets, and wall Carts. Salus designed, planned, implemented, and optimized a detailed solution stack providing ubiquitous Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire facility along with next generation firewalls to improve security. This type A regional referral hospital has over time expanded its services to meet the health needs of the region. Cutting edge technology is used in the provision of services thus ensuring excellence in teaching, research and patient care. The UHWI was embarking on a major modernization project to improve patient care through the implementation of the Health Information Management Systems (HIMS). The project involved digitization of the hospital’s operations and the eventual migration away from paper records. This involved utilizing HIMS for the entire health management cycle such as appointment, prescriptions and electronic medical records. In order to facilitate digitisation, the hospital needed to modernize and standardise the existing network. The network contained unsuitable, disparate technologies. They experienced frequent outages and was difficult to manage.  At the network layer, Salus planned, designed and implemented a hybrid network consisting of Cisco, Cisco Meraki and Fortinet equipment. We also implemented a server cluster architecture and network attached storage to facilitate storage and archiving of patient imaging and surveillance data.  The hospital now boasts a solid local area network with 802.11AC Wi-Fi network supporting wireless medical carts, patient monitors, digital displays and guest access.
